Two Mass. WTE facilities purchased

Sept. 10 -- Covanta Holding Corp. has agreed to buy two Massachusetts waste-to-energy
facilities for $61 million.
The Fairfield, N.J.-based company is acquiring the operating businesses of
EnergyAnswers Corp. The facilities are a 400-ton-per-day site in Springfield,
Mass., and a 240-ton-per-day plant in Pittsfield, Mass.
Included in the transaction is an ash disposal landfill in Springfield, two
transfer stations in Springfield and Canaan, N.Y., a waste transportation business
and a wood and yard waste recycling facility in Cape Cod, Mass.
Covanta will pay $61 million in cash and assumption of debt for the assets.
It expects to close the acquisition in the fourth quarter.
